Embrace the Spirit of Día de los Muertos with Your Personal Community Altar!

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a deeply cherished Mexican tradition that celebrates the lives of those who have passed away. It's a time for families and communities to come together to remember and honor their loved ones, embracing the belief that the spirits of the departed return to join the living for a brief period of celebration and remembrance. At the heart of this beautiful celebration is the creation of "ofrendas" or altars, which serve as welcoming spaces for the spirits of the deceased.

Your Chance to Create a Personal Community Altar

This year, we invite you to be a part of our Día de los Muertos Celebration in a unique and meaningful way. How? By purchasing a personal community altar for just $50! This is your opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind display that pays tribute to your cherished family members, friends, or even business associates. Your altar can be a heartfelt memorial to those you've lost, a celebration of their lives, and a way to share their memory with the community.

The Ingredients of Your Altar

We'll provide you with a 6-foot table at the celebration, and the rest is up to you. You can bring your altar to life with:

- Photographs: Share the faces and memories of your loved ones through photographs that capture their essence.

- Favorite Foods: Include their favorite dishes and treats, offering them a taste of what they enjoyed in life.

- Candles: Illuminate the altar with candles to guide their spirits and provide a warm and welcoming glow.

- Marigolds: These vibrant orange flowers are believed to attract the spirits with their vibrant color and scent.

- Other Meaningful Items: Add personal mementos, meaningful objects, and decorations that reflect the personalities and interests of those you're honoring.

A Chance to Share Your Love and Memories

Creating a personal community altar is not only a creative endeavor but also a heartfelt way to connect with the spirit of Día de los Muertos. It's a chance to share your love and memories with the community, adding a special touch to our festivities and contributing to the vibrant tapestry of this celebration.

Please Note: Displays Are Not Monitored

While we encourage you to create a personal community altar, it's important to mention that the Hispanic Heritage Museum (HHM) is not responsible for any missing items. We kindly ask participants to exercise caution with items placed on the displays.
